Israel Musaasizi Biography
Israel Musaasizi was born in the late 19th century in the country found in Africa very well known as Uganda, capital city Kampala.
Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa whose diverse landscape encompasses the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains and immense Lake Victoria. Its abundant wildlife includes chimpanzees as well as rare birds. Remote Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a renowned mountain gorilla sanctuary. Murchison Falls National Park in the northwest is known for its 43m-tall waterfall and wildlife such as hippos.
Israel Musaasizi, an ordinary young man just like any other person out there on the streets, average education and living an ordinary life, managed to shift his financial profile from zero to hero. There is nothing fancy that was applied in order to achieve that other than following the basic steps of life guided by life mentors as well as experience, learning each and every day that life isn’t all about having fun and doing what pleases us but being disciplined and having principles as an individual.
Being a six months old infant, under the care of his beloved mother who was abandoned with eleven other older children by a husband, it was really tough for her. Israel was raised in Kenya but travelling in and out of the country with one of his elder brothers, whom their mother gave custody to raise him from the age of six months.
Israel is the last born of twelve by the same parents and from the stories that he heard, their father was a very responsible man of one wife. Well, though later he met someone whom seemed like he found the love of his life. It's not like he never loved their mother, but having married in their teens through arrangement, it is strongly believed that their father was not mature enough to settle down and to truly understand what love was.
Israel's elder brother took over and raised a very responsible young man who learnt to be independent and creative at the same time. his brother got married, the wife moved in, but surely they had some kind of arrangement concerning this little baby who needs to be raised. She raised Israel well even though there were some ups and downs which he didn't get much into details, but she did a good job and may her soul rest in peace.
Isarel completed his primary level in shchool but due to environmental circumstances, couldn't complete the secondary or high level. Facing the world, Israel had to sustain himself and therefore, In the year 2000 he migrated to South Africa and settled in the city of Cape Town where he went as far as aquiring several diplomas and certificates in various caurses. He continued studying at the same time earning a living through the hair styling hobby. In 2007 he had alot going on including hair styling, hair product manufacturing, IT technician, web designer, office administration and later writing books.
Hair styling has always been Israel's talent from the age of seven, taught by my sister in law who always asked him to do thick braids with her hair after a long day. She had this thick natural hair which was difficult to maintain and comb the following morning unless it was plaited the previous night. his every night practice conceived something inside of him which led him to develop interest and with time it became a talent. A talent that he never knew he would build a carrier out of, but it honestly paid off in the end.
Israel started by doing kids’ hair at the neighbourhood just for the fun of it, and eventually he became famous around the block. Mothers were pushing their kids to go and play with Israel just knowing that their hair would end up being done. He became good with hair that even at school by the age of ten; his detention would be doing the teachers’ hair. Wasn’t that so cool? I mean he never made them believe that he had fun doing it but yes, doing hair saved him from other punishments.
He became so obsessed that it caused him to drop out of school. Well, he started skipping classes just to go to town and make himself some pocket money. It felt so good owning a couple of change in his pocket, affording all the little basics a teenager longs for. He was well disciplined though, never got involved in any crime or addiction, but very private at the same time until this day.
In the year 2001, Israel was hired at his first job in his life at some Cosmetics store in the Golden Acre in Cape Town. Having gone to that store several times to buy hair extensions for clients at the Ugandan Ladies salon, the store boss’ wife who worked at the counter, was so curious about where this young man took extensions every now and then. Having approached him with curiousity, He offered him a job due to the kind of experience he had at such a young age for a boy.
The well known store has a few chain of salons as well. At that time they had only one salon and it was the talk of the town, well up to this day and stylists worked so hard as well as paid so well. A day they could knock off with a thousand bucks, bad days R200 which was a lot of money back then. The store collected stylists from all over Africa. Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, Congo, Angola, Senegal, oh yea there was this other guy from Gabon, Rwanda, as well as South Africa. The stylists were extremely good at what they did that the cosmetic store appeared on breakfast shows on TV.
Israel reached the point where he felt like there were much more out there for him. In November 2004, he took a huge step and resigned having no idea how and where to begin, but all he knew was that starting a salon doesn't necessarily need a huge amount of cash but wisdom. Everyone thought he actually wouldn't make it due to the first challenges out there as well as being on a foreign land, but deep inside his heart told him that it was the right time and thing to do.
Working for somebody is one thing but running a business is another. When you have a boss you don't worry about anything like paying rent, rates and many other bills. Though at the cosmetic store Israel worked on commission which seemed like they were their own bosses, but they still didn't care how the bills were being taken care of. "Yes I really miss that place sometimes" says Israel. Especially when things started not going as expected with the new business, he almost regretted his choice of going out there to face the business world.
Israel left with a less amount of capital than expected, which he had saved during the season of Christmas and end of the year. That season was when they got to make some real cash and if one missed it, things would be tough during January and February, or let's say up until the Easter season which wasn't as big as Christmas.
Israel lived in Woodstock in a studio and what he decided was to convert one side to a salon and my living area on the opposite side. Clients are actually so loyal that they didn't mind how the place looked like, as long as they received a good service and trust me for once, that's one thing he was good at.
Same old plan he used with the first salon back in Uganda. One client buys a blow drier, the other one buys this and that, eventually in four months he ends up having a big drier with no rent arrears. Isn't that so cool? I mean people plan on getting loans or even sell what they have, yet Israel strongly believed that capital was the wisdom or mindset. As long as you think positive, then positive is what you will attract your way
