Before Bed Times (Maintenance)
When I was six years old I lived with my aunt who usually asked me to do her hair every single night into thick braids, which she had to undo every morning. The reason we had to do this more often is that there was no way she would handle that thick bushy natural hair the next morning before she left for work.
The braiding pattern helped to stretch the hair for it to be easy to comb and style in the morning and that was one of the ancient ways to maintain natural coarse hair especially when it grew longer. This also helped giving it some definition of freeze curls which only lasted a day, though the afro really looked stunning even if one had to repeat the same procedure each and every night.
